how does the director of hotel rwanda use cinematographic techniques to develop tension in pauls epiphany scene?

In the movie hotel Rwanda, the director uses an array of cinematographic techniques to strengthen the tension in the film which aims to show the terrible turn of events that happened in Rwanda. This movie is based on a true story of how the people of Rwanda were divided into two races, Hutu, and Tutsi when Belgium colonised Rwanda the segregated the country into two classes, the Hutu’s were stereotyped to have darker skin and wider noses. The Tutsi were said to have lighter skin and thin noses. After the Belgians left they left the power in the arms of the Hutu’s they were conditioned to think that the Tutsi were nothing more than cockroaches and scum. This was the beginning of one of the worst cases of mass genocide the world has ever seen.

one of the techniques Terry George uses is tension. he uses silence and suspense to keep the audience engaged. One example of this is when Paul gets the supplies he needs, George tells him he knows he has important cockroaches (Tutsi’s) at his hotel. George then offers him a deal to let him have some Tutsi’s of his own and George gets to kill the rest of them. As George finishes his sentence the camera changes to a close up. this is looking to catch Paul’s reaction to the “take it or leave it.” Deal George has put on the table for him. this close up catch the utter disgust shown by his facial expressions. another point that is just as important is the audio. This plays a part in keeping the audience thinking. Terry George uses tribal and quick tempo sounds that enhance the moment of tension. It gives the scene a level of uncertainty in the mind of the audience. In Paul’s epiphany scene the sound plays a vital part in adding the machete slice sound, this helps add tension because the machete slice represents violence so the audience will immediately think it means death.

Another important factor is the use of special effects. Terry george uses special effects to help aid him in making the movie appeal and more emotive to viewers

Romeo and Juliet act 3 scene 1 summary

The scene starts with benvolio telling mercutio to go home as it is a hot day and the weather can cause all sorts of arguments and commotion of some sort. Benvolio knows there will be a fight if they bump into any capulets. mercutio begins stating that benvolio will start a fight over minor misunderstandings. As benvolio questions if mercutio really thinks he is like that the capulets arrive. Tybalt and a few other capulets arrive and start approaches the mercutio and benvolio asking if they had seen romeo, in a way this angers mercutio and he threatens him to hit him if he answers the question. Tybalt, reluctant to have a fight, steps away and states the he doesn’t want to fight him, he just wants romeo because he was seen at the capulet party and promises to kill him if he sees him. Benvilio urges tybalt and mercutio to take this somewhere private where the public cannot tell the athorities. Then romeo arrives and happy to see both families as he thinks hes solved the dispute between the montagues and the capulets. As romeo walks by mercutio is puzzled as he is not ready to fight the sworn enemy. As the tentioin gets higher and higher romeo tries to tell tybalt that there is no need to fight as they are cousins because he has married juliet.tybalt refuses to listen and mercutio cannot believe what he is hearing so he decides to still fight tybalt and that results in tybalts death.Romeo flees the scene and as the police gets involved romeo gets banished, if he is found in verona the police have a warrant for his death.

scene 2

In the next scene Julliet is in the room having fantasies about how to lose her virginity and waiting for romeo to come, unaware of the fact that romeo is banished, then nurse comes and goes around saying “he is dead,he is dead were ruined.”

semantic field badge attempt

In Romeo and Juliet there is strong use of the idea fate, this comes into play with coincidence and religion. In some parts of the play Romeo portrays himself as a boat and God as the captain steering him to his ultimate destiny. These series of events happen through coincidence that romeo believes that he can’t change or resist which is used in most of this metaphors.

I’d just like to focus on the quote “some consequence yet hanging in the stars.” This shows that God already has plans for his future. Religion has a strong impact in the play because of the year and time the play was made because the church was very powerful at that time and it would have had much influence on the play and it made romeo seem very passionate about how he already has his fate decided and how unpredictable his life can be in the hands and eyes of god.
Coincidence has a strong impact on the play because the servant had all the invitants coming to the Capulet party did not know how to read so he went to look for the most wealthiest looking man on the road and that ended up being Romeo. This is coincidental because that same party is where Romeo will meet the love of his life and that will result in his “untimely” death. This could arguably fate coming in to play in that scene and God planing for him to see his true love Juliet by coincidence.
The last feature of semantic field is the prologue, ” A pair of star crossed lovers take their life” This is a form of  dramatic irony due to the audience being given a hint of whats to come in the play but the actors will not know about. This is why the play is so powerful in most audiences eyes.

Lord void peered at the stadium with a fat cigar roll in his mouth. He wore a dark grey waistcoat which had a lava orange interior; he looked to the sky that looked like a television with broken cable. He laughed and showed complete disregard for the city and all its hope. Lord void dropped his cigar and picked up his cup of wine and looked at his multi-million dollar blue print for the ultimate money making skim, The Deatlympics. The city had grown so much hate to even care about people dying in the act of sport, they might just enjoy it.

Lord void had his corrupt money making skim in his mind. He could see the hovering stadium and the deathly obstacle course that the unlucky contestants had to do. He looked at the levitating holographic clocks striking thirteen, it was time for his press conference. Lord void walked in the room gingerly, making sure he saw every reporter and to make sure there was no secret cameras around. He stood arrogantly and nodded his head and at an instant everyone bowed their head. His fingers twitched repetitively as he waited for the first question. Lord Void took out his cigar and ordered for the reporters to get on with the first question. Reporter 1:”L…l…lord Void their have been rumors spreading that the oympics are unsafe”. “HA HA HA – since when can sports be unsafe? We just need 6 healthy contestants that think they can win the gold”. Reporter 2:”Lord Void  if it’s just a bit of sports why was there any need for more time to do more work in the running track”. Lord Void put his cigar down. The tension was high and the reporters eyes turned to the unlucky man who thought he could say what he liked. Lord Void pointed his finger at him and he was disintegrated at an instant. He smiled and said, “Any more questions?” After a brief silence he said, “Thank you.”

Within the dark realm of Void city lived an unlikely hero, Kristen Cage. He was single, without a social life and he worked in a office inside his house. After work hours he normally sat on the couch and watched TV. He normally watched the news and what stood out to Kristen was how Lord Void was randomly picking contestants to compete in the 800m death run. Clouds of uncertainty shadowed his mind. There was a slim chance Kristen would get picked but there was always a possibility that lingered in his mind. Kristen was beginning to feel inpatient; a parade of positive and negative thoughts ran rampage in his mind and after he calmed himself down he took some headache pills and took his glasses off and sighed and went to sleep.

2 months later….

The Deathlympics was approaching fast; only 3 weeks left. It was the day that would dramatically change the lives of six people who will have to step up and literally run for their lives. Kristen ran to the couch to see the six unlucky people who had to survive based on how fit they were. The draw began and the first name they picked out was Bennett Assombalonga. Kristen laughed and said “unlucky mate.” Next was Nicky Lavine, then came Archie Feed, Harry O’sullivan, John Johnson then last came Kristen Kage. He felt as if reality slapped him across the face and he realized that he only has 3 weeks to get in the best shape possible. Behind Kristen was the gym passes he had ignored for weeks. He knew this was the only time they will come in handy.

The next day a letter came to his door. It explained how the race was going to happen. First the racers will go to their mark, as they start running Lord Void will click a button to start denigrating the racetrack behind the racers. If you fall behind you will fall into a endless abyss, but there are other obstacles you have to worry about as there was laser beams, the stadium spins while you run and if you come last you will be ELIMINATED. Kristen remembered the times when sports united people and the 5 Olympic values. All forgotten and now we take pleasure in the deaths of others, “We humans are truly monsters” he said to himself. “Despite how unjust this is, I can’t give up. It’s time to get fit.”

It was the time of the truth. The Deathlympics had reached it’s destination. Beyond the stadium were flying objects, that lit up the sky all in formation. It gave Kristen an eerie feeling. The build up to this historical event was unbearable, all the what if’s were roaming his head. When he told it to go away it stayed where it was. Kristen had butterflies in his stomach and when his name was called out on the announcement speaker it was like a sucker punch to his gut. He walked at a leisurely pace to the end of the tunnel to see the overwhelming crowd. Kristen’s heart raced as he saw Lord Void in the distance, who gave Kristen a cheap good luck smile but he knew that he was a gonner. In the last few minutes Kristen stretched out and put himself in the zone. As long as he did not come last or die he would live, but compared to the other contestants he needed a miracle. It was time. All the racers were asked to get in position Kristen’s arm were jittering continuously and he realized there was no way out. He looked at the contestants and gave them a goodbye look. From there Kristen’s head went down and he was ready to run for his life.

Death penalty: Why i think it is wrong

Everyone thinks human life is precious. People against capital punishment believe that human life is so valuable that even the worst murderers should not be deprived their right to live. They believe that the value of the offender’s life cannot be taken by the offender’s bad decisions – even if they have killed someone. There’s also an argument to be made that death is too good for the worst criminals. Let them wake up and go to bed every day of their lives in a prison cell, and think about the freedom they don’t have, until they rot of old age.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The worst case scenario could be that an innocent person could be wrongly convicted for a crime he/she did not do. In the last 35 years in the U.S.130 people have been released from death row because there was a failure in the DNA testings. A staggering figure of 8,000 people have been wrongly convicted and put on death row.

To conclude my speech on the capital punishment i’d just like to clearly state that the saying “an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth” is not the way to go in life. Everyone has a right to life and i believe no-one should be deprived of that right.

Macbeth scene summary : act 2 scene 4

Setting: Somewhere in Scotland.

Characters: Old man,Ross,Macduff.

The two men at the start of the scene, Old man and Ross, are discussing how disorientated the night was. In the text it says “by the clock tis day and night strangles the traveling lamp”. This quote infers that something has caused mother nature to be violent on the earth, that means refusing to make the sun rise.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Later in the scene Macduff and Ross find out that Malcolm and Donaldbain (Duncan’s sons) are no-where to be seen. They are discussing who could be behind this terrible act of murder, due to the absence of Doaldbain and Malcom they are seen as the prime suspects.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      As the scene draws to a close Macbeth has gone to be crowned king, but neither Ross or Macduff want to attend the ceremony. They want to carry on looking for clues.
