semantic field badge attempt

In Romeo and Juliet there is strong use of the idea fate, this comes into play with coincidence and religion. In some parts of the play Romeo portrays himself as a boat and God as the captain steering him to his ultimate destiny. These series of events happen through coincidence that romeo believes that he can’t change or resist which is used in most of this metaphors.

I’d just like to focus on the quote “some consequence yet hanging in the stars.” This shows that God already has plans for his future. Religion has a strong impact in the play because of the year and time the play was made because the church was very powerful at that time and it would have had much influence on the play and it made romeo seem very passionate about how he already has his fate decided and how unpredictable his life can be in the hands and eyes of god.
Coincidence has a strong impact on the play because the servant had all the invitants coming to the Capulet party did not know how to read so he went to look for the most wealthiest looking man on the road and that ended up being Romeo. This is coincidental because that same party is where Romeo will meet the love of his life and that will result in his “untimely” death. This could arguably fate coming in to play in that scene and God planing for him to see his true love Juliet by coincidence.
The last feature of semantic field is the prologue, ” A pair of star crossed lovers take their life” This is a form of  dramatic irony due to the audience being given a hint of whats to come in the play but the actors will not know about. This is why the play is so powerful in most audiences eyes.

  1. This is shaping up well. Some advice:

    1) Try to avoid informality – the hedge “I think” is not needed. You can be confident in your analytical writing and completely remove the ‘I think’ because if you are being logical, and can provide evidence to support your idea, then the idea is right.

    2) Instead of copying the whole chunk of text into your analysis, reduce your quotes to one line at a time, and embed them inside your sentences. Let me know if you want me to show you how this is done – or have a look at the example paragraph on the class site

    3) I know this isn’t finished – but to unlock Semantic Field, you will want to refer to two other devices that develop the idea of fate in the play.

    Righto!
